Report by Ann Reid, Club Recorder
This year, the MSNSW Long Distance Championships were held in short course (25m) format at Knox Grammar Aquatic Centre on Sunday, 31 August 2025.
1500m Freestyle starting blocks, let’s go!
The 1500m Freestyle was the first event on the program. Liam McHugh (Gold), 30-34 age group, and Caz Makin (Gold), 55-59 age group, took on the 59 tumble turns, and both established new club records with their times. Liam also broke the NSW Branch record and the club records at 400 and 800m.
Race ready …
The 800m ‘form’ strokes were next.
800m Backstroke: Brenda Day (Gold) 75-29 age group, broke the club record (last broken 21 years ago). Ann Reid (Gold), 60-64 age group, established a new club record.
800m Breaststroke: Atsuko McGowan (Gold) for her swim in the 45-49 age group.
400m Freestyle: Liesl Peters (Silver), 55-59 age group, Ann (Gold), 60-64 age group, and Brenda (Gold), 75-29 age group. Brenda established two new club records with this swim – both the 200m and 400m records.
400m Backstroke: Liam (Gold), 30-34 age group outdid his earlier (Freestyle) result, breaking the existing club record but more importantly setting new NSW Branch and National records. A fantastic swim, Liam!
