Amazing achievements at the 2025 Australian Masters Games, Canberra
Report by Caz Makin, Publicity Officer
The Australian Masters Games are held every two years, and this edition saw swimmers from around the country heading to Canberra for two days of competition at the Australian Insitute of Sport (AIS) pool. The event was held in short course format on 24/25 October 2025.
Tuggeranong Masters fielded a large team of 36 swimmers over the two days at the AIS. From first-time racers to seasoned competitors our swimmers took advantage of being able to race in our home city, which normally only happens every second year for the MSNSW SC Championships.
Events on offer ranged from 25m splash and dashes for the sprinters through to 400m Freestyle and 400m Individual Medley for the endurance swimmers. Some of our swimmers competed in as many as 12 individual events.
Ann Reid, our Club Recorder, had a huge job tallying up each swimmer’s events placing, total number of indivudal swims, medals and relay medals - her analysis is detailed below showing her mammoth workings!
Our 36 swimmers secured a massive 69 Gold, 52 Silver and 33 Bronze individual medals!
We had 12 relay teams racing 4x25m Mixed relays and 4x50m Womens and Mens relays, and our relay swimmers pushed hard and fast to secure fast times and medals all round.
The Vikings medal haul was so large, we almost needed a Viking long boat to carry them!
Overall, there we many amazing achievements from our swimmers, ranging from PBs, to club records, to medals galore, to first ever races, to just having a go! …. but most of all the action around the pool deck was great to see as we engaged with swimming friends old and new from around Australia.
