Long-time club volunteer recognised by ACT Government

Greg’s Certificate of Recognition

Report by Caz Makin, Publicity Officer

In November 2023, long-standing club member, coach, and active committee member Greg Gourley was nominated by committee members, Anne Smyth, Kylie Lane, and Caz Makin for a special ACT Government volunteer recognition award for the fantastic work that Greg has done over many years for our club and the Masters Swimming community. Greg always goes above and beyond expectations, and is very deserving of this acknowledgment for his volunteer work.

Ann Reid attended the event at Parliament House on 30 November to collect Greg’s Volunteer Certificate of Recognition from the ACT Government, as Greg was unable to attend as he was already committed to leading his local community fire unit on training that evening in one of his other volunteer roles.

Greg was presented with his certificate at our club’s Christmas celebration on 10 December.

Greg’s Nomination

It gives us great pleasure to nominate Greg Gourley in recognition of his timeless efforts and outstanding leadership for our club, Tuggeranong Masters Swimming ACT.

Greg Gourley has been a member of Tuggeranong Masters Swimming Club for over 20 years and has continually volunteered his time and effort in developing the club under the Masters Swimming motto of “fun, friendship and fitness”.

Greg has provided exceptional leadership as Club President for the last 7 years, and has developed many processes and procedures, including managing our return to swimming post-COVID lockdowns.

Greg has supported and volunteered his knowledge and time to help others within the Masters Swimming Communities, conducting Swimming Workshops on National level as well as for ACT and NSW clubs.

He is an integral part of the Tuggeranong Masters Coaching team volunteering his time to run sessions, collaborate with fellow coaches and establish new initiatives such as video analysis. Greg has developed programs such as our club’s “Become a Master” encouraging new swimmers to achieve their personal swimming goals.

Greg’s enthusiasm, knowledge, and encouragement over many years as a volunteer in our club stands him worthy of this special appreciation and recognition for all of his effort as a coach and as a highly valued member of our committee and our club.
