Five Turtles in Tuggeranong Pool

Report by Catherine Alexander

The five swimmers who made the Turtle Relay come to life. Brenda Day, Pauline Rohan, Catherine Alexander, Maria Castles and Cecelia Kaye.

Five swimmers who regularly swim the Endurance sessions, turned up last Tuesday, 10 February 2015 to complete a 5km Freestyle relay for the Wests Auburn Masters Postal Swim.

Katrina, our Postal Swim Coordinator, admiring our results. We were the first to complete the Wests Auburn Turtle Postal Swim.

With great minds and many stop watches, they clocked each other’s 1km legs and then clocked up the extra minutes to either the 30 min or 1500m Endurance swims. Two results from one swim has to be good.

The reason these members all chose to do this on a Tuesday morning is that the pool is generally very quiet and calm, lanes are booked, and they have that morning allocated for swimming.

Tuesday morning Endurance Sessions are very calm. Last Tuesday we had the whole 25m north end to ourselves.

The turtle swim participants certainly were not the only endurance swimmers that day.

As this endurance session is never overcrowded, Tuesday AM swimmers can easily get in two or three timed swims.

All set up and ready to record our 5x1000m Turtle Relay.

If you think you would like to explore more avenues of our clubs activities, think about joining us for the Endurance sessions, on Tuesday mornings – 10:30am – 12 noon.

We have fun, enjoy the friendship and improve our fitness!

There are also Endurance sessions on Saturdays 10:30am – 12.30pm.

Bunbury Postal Swim – May/June 2012

Report by Leisa Cass

Six members participated in the 2012 Bunbury Stingers Postal Swim during the winter. The event consists of swimming three 400m swims, one each of Freestyle and Backstroke, and then a choice of either Breaststroke or Butterfly, during the months of May and June.

These can be swum as part of the normal Endurance 1000 swim program, thereby earning both Endurance 1000 points, as well as completing a swim for the postal meet entry.

It was an all female participation this year from our members Atsuko McGowan, Mandy Coggins, Pauline Rohan, Caroline Makin, Anne Smyth and Ann Reid.

Five of our swimmers, Mandy, Pauline, Caroline, Anne and Ann made the most improved list, as compared to their times for the same swims last year.

Ann had a massive 33.12 second improvement on her entry from last year, with Pauline not far behind improving by 28.38 seconds.  Caroline came in 27.10 seconds ahead of last year, Mandy finished her swims 23.38 seconds faster than last year, and Anne improved by 5.95 seconds.

Well done ladies!

Full Results for this postal meet are available for download and will also be listed on the Postal Swims section of the Masters Swimming website.

Tuggeranong Trifecta Postal Swim – July/August 2011

In July and August, we held our very own Tuggeranong Trifecta – three swims (a 400m, an 800m and a 1500m) each in a different stroke.

There were 24 entries (20 females, four males) from five clubs: Tuggeranong (10), Alice AUSSI (8), Bunbury (4), and one each from Albany Creek and Aqua Jets.

The most popular stroke for each distance across all swimmers was Individual Medley for the 400m, Backstroke for the 800m and Freestyle for the 1500m Freestyle.

Except for an 800m butterfly all strokes and distances were represented; Adrian Davis and Ann Reid using their gold medal efforts from the Long Distance Championships (yes, 1500m Butterfly!) as part of their entries.

Full Results are available.
