Blacktown Resurrection Meet – 20 March 2021

Report by Ann Reid

Was it an intrepid or foolhardy bunch of Tuggeranong club members who ventured to Blacktown for their first pool competition (for most of them) in over a year?

With serious flooding already happening, a torrid weather forecast and the NSW Premier telling people to stay home there was a significant number of NSW swimmers missing when the five of us arrived in Blacktown. It was good to be amongst old friends again and to see what we could achieve in the pool.

Brian and Cecelia won all of their events, both achieving equal first in their age groups. Hayley (in her first Masters competition) achieved a first, a second, and a third. Kylie, two seconds and a third (in the age group which did not stay at home).  Ann achieved two firsts and a second, as well as the Eileen Meldrum Memorial Shield for coming closest to nominated time in the 100m backstroke!

The cool down pool was literally that — outside in the pouring rain with an unhelpful fresh breeze! Ann decided very quickly that a hot shower was a better option.

The ladies won their medley relay and Brian broke the club record for each of his events — as he did in all four events at the Tea Gardens Resurrection meet in February.

Tuggeranong finished equal eighth on total points and third on average points per swimmer for clubs with four or more swimmers.

Roll on State Championships!
