On the afternoon of Sunday, 17 November 2019, 36 swimmers from 5 Masters clubs (8 Tuggeranong Vikings, 15 Molonglo Water Dragons, 2 Ginninderra Swim Club, 6 Oaks Flat and 1 Penrith Masters) participated in the final ACT Interclub Meet for 2019. The meet was held in long-course format at the Gunghalin Leisure Centre and hosted by our northern neighbours the Water Dragons.
Thanks to all those Vikings who helped Molonglo run the meet in the sad absence of Gary Stutsel who was suddenly and unexpectedly unwell. Annette stepped into his very big shoes and expertly ensured that the meet ran well in her fabulously efficient way. Ann Reid did a great job of manning the starting gun, Donna coordinated the marshalling table and ably managed to herd the cats. Thanks also to Bill Eversham for his friendly dedication to all things time-keeping and to Pete Sharman for his time and efforts with the recording. A great community and team effort!
As always, it was a relaxed and friendly afternoon, giving ACT swimmers a chance to race locally. An initial clash with a bouncy castle booking prompted a re-write of the program at the last hour but was avoided on the day when said bouncy castle was cancelled and we ended up having all four lanes of the pool after all. Molonglo put on a fabulous afternoon tea with a special mention going to the plum cake which resulted in, for Nicolee’s part anyway, more calories being ingested than expended despite the afternoon of exhausting competition!
Tuggeranong was well represented by a small but feisty group of Vikings including Al Byrne, Katrina Burgess, Nick Dando, Nick Grinter, Ian Hampton, Kylie Lane, Christine Leary, and Nicolee Martin. Everyone swam well with good solid swims and fast times (mostly) all-round. Relays were fast and furious and capped off a very enjoyable afternoon. Check out the full results.
