Report by Anne Smyth, Head Coach
To complete the year of pool competition, a third ACT Interclub Meet for 2015 was held on 22 November with a focus on distance events in SC 25m format. With a late change to Gungahlin pool due to uncertainty about high water temperatures at Lakeside Leisure Centre, the meet ran very smoothly. It was, as usual, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with time to catch up with swimmers from the competing clubs over a bit of timekeeping. There were 17 swimmers from Tuggeranong Vikings, 10 from Molonglo Water Dragons and Joan Bratton was the keen solo rep from Ginninderra Masters.
Some excellent swims were recorded with many Tuggeranong club records being set.
Ann Reid and Brenda Day continue to amaze and impress us with their huge gutsy effort in completing the 1500m Butterfly — well done ladies!
David Bale had a strong swim in 1500m Backstroke and Jane Waddleton and Andrea Teunissen completed their 1500m Breaststroke with style. It was good to see Maddie Fleming and Paul Hitchman smashing out 1500m Freestyle with strong first parts of their swims.
Caroline Makin, Anne Smyth, Suzie Gunning and Otto Bender all swam 800m events in various strokes. Caz completed a strong all-round swim in the Individual Medley, Anne practised many turns in Backstroke and Suzie and Otto both put in solid Freestyle swims.
It was great to see Kristen Leyden competing again after mended broken bones in the 50m events and even managing a 400m Freestyle!
Kade Burgess had a splash in some 50’s and he and Kyle McLean enjoyed racing in Butterfly and Freestyle. Kyle also swam 400m Freestyle and paced himself well over this longer distance.
Leisa Cass, Liz Needham and Donna Campbell had some good 50m sprints and Donna finished off with a 400m Breaststroke, recording a large PB!
Thanks to all those who came and helped even though they were not swimming — Greg Gourley, Cecelia Kaye, Annette Britten, Jodie Burke and Denise Druitt. Also huge thanks to the partners who came along and helped: Scott Makin and Peter Sharman on the recording and to Art for all his timekeeping.
