Campbelltown BPS Meet – 17 January 2015

Report by Katrina Burgess

It was a great way to start 2015 with a group of six Vikings taking a trip up the highway to participate in the year’s first BPS Meet at Campbelltown (who were celebrating their 35th anniversary of their club) on Saturday, 17 January 2015.

The day was a “pearler” … blue skies and a slight breeze. The Vikings – although a smaller crew than previous years due to the clash with the Tathra Wharf to Waves Ocean Swim on the same weekend – made their attendance known with great cheering and support for each member when facing the blocks.

All of our swimmers entered and competed in the maximum of four races and due to this great effort Tuggerangong Vikings narrowly missed out on the average points per swimmer trophy. It was so so close….

Our highlights included:

Marianne Tweedie (30-34 age group) – placed 1st in her age group with solid swims especially her 200m Individual Medley showing us that she indeed is not just a freestyler!

David Bale (40-45 yrs age group) – being the only male representative from the Viking club – performed brilliantly and gained 1st place in his age group knocking out his fierce competition with two great butterfly swims and a PB in his 100m Freestyle.

Katrina Burgess (45-49  age group) – placed 1st in her age group, swam three PB’s and was very happy to break the 2:40 mark for the 200m Freestyle.

In the 50-54 female age group there were 16 competitiors with three of those being Viking ladies …

Ann Reid was well rewarded by achieving 2nd place overall with her four solid swims preparing her nicely for some hot results at the National Championships in Hobart.

Leisa Cass showed everyone how a backstroke start should be done and also swam strongly in all her races coming fourth in this very competitive age group.

Donna Campbell continues to blossom with her swimming career just starting and swam a very tidy and technical 50m Freestyle and also showed everyone that she is not just a sprinter and swam a terrific 200m Breaststroke.

Tuggernaong entered one Female 4x50m Medley Relay and our ladies finished in second place.

Donna was very busy being the official photographer for the crew – thanks for all the action photos taken which lead to none of her (question – was that her plan??!).

It was a long day as our Vikings stayed for the BBQ (feel free to ask Marianne how many sausages she ate!) and the presentations however the traditional Macca’s stop at Sutton Forrest was achieved with many downing a calorie filled dessert (yum to the large chocolate shakes).

Full results are available.
