Manly BPS Meet – 23 June 2013

Report by Katrina Burgess

It was a miserable rainy day in Sydney on Sunday, 23 June 2013, so a day spent in the pool at the Manly BPS Meet was ideal.

Two Tuggeranong swimmers represented the club with great success scoring 56 points out of a possible 60 with the club coming equal 20th out of 31 competing clubs.

Gary Stutsel swam in the 100m Breaststroke finishing 2nd, the 200 IM gaining 1st place and the 50m Backstroke finishing 3rd. Gary looked strong in all races and was bang on his entry times.

Katrina Burgess also swam the 100m Breaststroke with a 1st place in her age group (although there were no others competing this race). Then she swam the 100m IM and finishing in 2nd place and the 200m IM where she secured a 1st place. All of Katrina’s times were personal bests as these events had not been swum since she returned to the racing arena earlier this year.

Caroline Makin was entered to swim at the meet, but unfortunately had to pull out a couple of days before the meet due to her husband, Scott injuring his back playing volleyball and him ending up in hospital … he’s OK now though!

The two highlights of the day were having two Vikings caps competing side by side in the 100m Breaststroke and more significantly watching three world records being smashed by the awesome Jenny Whiteley from Ryde Masters.
