Report by Gary Stutsel
On the Wednesday before the June long weekend Gary and Audrey Stutsel set out on the 1900km round trip to Yamba for the Clarence River BPS Meet being held on 8/9 June 2013. Their trip was made easier by stopovers at Port Macquarie on the way up and the way back.
For those who have never been there Yamba is a beautiful spot at the mouth of the Clarence River., however not on June long weekends. This year was the first of four where it didn’t rain all weekend but there was a bitterly cold wind on Saturday and it was overcast for all but 30 minutes of the two days.
As our sole swimmer (Audrey marshalled) Gary did well to have us finish 11th of 14 clubs with 69 points. The hosts ran away with the pointscore with 1911 points but second placed club was Sutherland Sandbern with 374 points from five swimmers.
Gary won his age pointscore by the narrowest of margins (3/100ths of a second) from Peter Kaupert of Warringah. Peter and Gary both easily won four of their events but had to compete against one another in the 100m Backstroke (Peter), 100m Individual Medley (Gary) and 25m Breaststroke (Gary 19.41 seconds to Peter’s 19.44).
