Cessnock BPS Meet – 23 February 2013

Report by Gary Stutsel

Audrey and Gary Stutsel drove from Canberra to Cessnock on the Friday through dry patches of road, steady rain and sudden showers where you couldn’t see the truck in front of you, to take part in the Cessnock BPS Meet on Saturday 23 February, 2013

Saturday morning they awoke to more rain but fortunately for Audrey the Marshalling Area where she worked from 12.30 till the end of the meet was under cover. 21mm of rain fell during the day rarely heavy but constant and steady. Throughout this Gary refereed and swum.

Swimming the maximum three individual events, Gary came 1st in 200m Freestyle (3:08.97), 1st in 100m Butterfly (1:57.75 despite having about 15 seconds rest at the 70-metre mark) and 2nd in the 50m Backstroke (46.45).

Gary’s total points were 29 placing him equal first in the 70-74 age group where the were a record 10 competitors and the club 20th of 27 clubs. The three times were all new Vikings Club records.

Driving home on the Sunday after a quick trip to a vineyard, the couple didn’t hit rain till Goulburn. They say it never rains but it pours. This was one of those weekends.
