Central Coast BPS Meet – 19 January 2013

Report by Ann Reid

After sweltering in Sydney’s heat the day before, Gosford’s weather for the City Seagulls 30th anniversary Central Coast BPS Meet on Saturday, 19 January 2013, could only be considered temperamental!

The initial overcast conditions and very fresh breeze made Ann wish she had taken my deck coat after all! The water temperature was ideal but getting out of the water was no fun. Then the sun appeared with enough sting in it to send Ann for the sunscreen …. next the clouds came back again with some light rain, then some pouring rain, more sunshine and then back to overcast with the fresh breeze, for the rest of the meet in this outdoor 50m pool.

Brenda Day swam in the 200m Individual Medley, the 100m Freestyle and the 50m Backstroke; her best result was third of nine in the Backstroke.

Ann Reid swam in the 200m Freestyle, the 100m Butterfly and the 50m Freestyle; Ann’s Freestyle times were good, while the Fly was fairly ordinary! Ann came equal third in her age group from 12 competitors, and Brenda came eighth from eighteen competitors in her age group.

Gosford club had borrowed an automatic timing system for the day; this only required timekeepers to press the stop button on the small handheld device they were given instead of a stopwatch. Less chance for error, but probably only useful for a sprint meet, as no obvious means of taking splits.

As usual, a raffle was held but neither of our ladies won anything. There were also lots of prizes for the volunteers. Peter Hurdis, the lucky fellow, won a free haircut from Just Cuts! … for those that don’t know Peter …he doesn’t have much hair to cut!

Everyone received one of the 30th anniversary badges and tucked into cold meat, salad and fruit at the end of the day.

Despite the weather, it was a very enjoyable day.

Full results are available.
