Seaside Pirates BPS Meet – 5 August 2012

Report by Caroline Makin

Scott and Caroline Makin left Canberra at 8am on their day trip to Knox Grammar School in Wahroonga, Sydney. They arrived at the rather splendid pool at 12pm ready for the start of the warm up for the Seaside Pirates BPS Meet on Sunday, 5 August 2012.

This lovely 50m pool had the boom in for this 25m SC meet.  The were electronic timing pads and olympic standard starting blocks, which was pretty impressive.

First up for Caroline was the 200m Freestyle.  With a realistic entry time of her PB, Caroline ended up in a very fast heat with all the fastest men on the day.  She went out in PB pace, and felt fine for the first 75-100m, then the lactic hit. She kept digging in and was still on PB pace at the 150m mark, but she had nothing left in the tank for the last 50m with tired legs and tired arms, she struggled home, too far behind all the men, in a final time of two seconds over her PB.

Next up 50m Breaststroke and this swim proved that Caroline’s Breaststroke has definitely gone off form at the moment!

Finally, the 100m Freestyle and Caroline was hoping to break the 1:13 mark again for the third time, but this was not to be.  Coming home in 1:13.74, a little disappointing and a second slower than she swam her lead off leg in the relay meet two weeks earlier.

All in all, 29 points, no disasters, but no really noteworthy performances!
