Meet report by Caroline Makin
Three Vikings headed to just north of Sydney for the Warringah BPS Meet on Saturday 8 October 2011 for a fast and furious 25m short course meet.
Roger Dietrich, second claimer and newbie Viking, made his debut for the club, swimming in 4 individual events: 25m Freestyle, 25m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle, earning us 23 points – a sterling effort resulting in a great first outing for this Bush Ranger wearing Vikings attire!
Cecelia Kaye took some time out from visiting family in Sydney on this sunny Saturday, and put in a solid performance in the pool. Cecelia placed first or second in her four swims totting up 38 points for the club over the following events: 25m Breaststroke, 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke. A fantastic second place overall in her age group was certainly well deserved.
Caroline Makin also swam in four individual events, knocking a significant 1.5 seconds off her 100m Individual Medley PB, then following that with further PBs in her next two swims: 25m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke, and rounding off with a decent 50m Freestyle swim, securing a personal total of 35 points for the club.
The trio scouted around the pool for a willing male to swim a leg of the 4x25m Mixed Medley Relay, and came up trumps when Stuart Ellicott from Hornsby – a National Record holder in Breaststroke events in his age group – volunteered to swim the Breaststroke leg in their relay team! Nice negotiating team Vikings – just a shame it did not count for club points!! Cecelia swam the Backstroke, Caroline the Butterfly and Roger brought the team home swimming the Freestyle leg.
So, a good effort all round, with a total of 96 points for Tuggeranong Masters – well done you Vikings!
