ACT Interclub Duel Meet – 11 September 2011

Meet report by David Bale

The third instalment of the ACT Interclub Duel Meet for 2011 (Tuggeranong Vikings v Molonglo Waterdragons) was held on 11 September 2011 at Queanbeyan indoor 25m pool.

It was a little disappointing to see only fourteen Vikings and seven Waterdragons ready to push out some laps in the spirit of competition, meaning those who were there and competed, were challenged with minimal recovery time between events.  There were some good times produced nonetheless.

Eight swimmers started the meet by completing the 200m Freestyle.  The 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly events followed with some solid efforts by several competitors including Jill Blomeley and John Collis and special mention must go to Gillian Sharp who produced a great time for someone only recently back in the pool after the birth of her beautiful baby.

The 100m choice events came around very quickly for some competitors – particularly those three souls who elected to do the 100m Butterfly, which started only 10-15 minutes after they finished their demanding 200m Freestyle swims!  Greg Gourley and Gary Stutsel both produced great times within their age groups in their 100m Freestyle swims.

The 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle events also provided for some great racing.  Paul Hitchman performed exceptionally well with a speedy 28.15 for his 50m Freestyle.  Liz Needham put in a solid 50m Backstroke as ever. Adrian Davis provided his usual strong efforts – putting in a snappy 50m Freestyle even though the events were somewhat shorter than he prefers – sorry Adrian, no 1500m Butterfly available at this meet!

Tuggeranong offered three relay teams and Molonglo offered one – all in separate age groups, so max points were obtained by all. A solid effort all round from the small number of competitors at this local duel.

The end result was an overwhelming win to Tuggeranong 435 over Molonglo with 233.

Full Results are available.

Vikings – let’s make the effort for our club and provide a great turnout for the NSW SC Championships at CISAC on 22/23 October.  This is our time to shine and ensure NSW Masters Swimming brings this meet to Canberra again soon.  We are Vikings and we will conquer! Woot!
