Meet report from Brenda Day
The Pan Pacific Masters Games were held at the Miami pool on Queensland’s Gold Coast from 11-13 November 2010. These games are held every two years. We had two swimmers competing, Ian Hampton and Brenda Day representing the Tuggeranong Vikings with very pleasing results.
Ian Hampton placed first in 200m Individual Medley, 200m Breaststroke, 100m Breaststroke, second in 50m Butterfly and fourth in 50m Breaststroke.
Brenda Day placed second in 400m Backstroke, 400m Individual Medley, 200m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley, 200m Butterfly and third in 100m Backstroke, 50m Backstroke and fourth in 100m Freestyle.
The Open Water event was held at a freshwater lake (Lake Hugh Muntz). The water temperature was a pleasant 23 degrees approx. and the water was clean and in very pleasant surrounds. There were 3 distances 1.25km, 2.5km and 5km.
Brenda Day placed second in the 2.5km Open Water event.
As an aside, on the first day of competition during the 400m Individual Medley, Brenda was wondering why the pool deck was lined with spectators who were laughing – could her Breaststroke leg be that amusing? No …a family of 12 ducklings and a mother duck had joined in the competition – definitely a Kodak moment!
