Relative newbies to the club, David Bale and Caroline Makin were ultra keen to get another competition under their belts, so travelled to the Sydney University Sports and Aquatic Centre on 29 May 2010 to represent the club at the BPS Round 6 Wett Ones Meet.
This was their first ever Long Course meet, and they both found competing in a 50m pool a bit tougher than the usual Short Course 25m distance! David and Caroline managed to secure a further 57 points for Vikings. After a long wait for all of the 400m swims to take place and over two hours after finishing their warm up, both swimmers competed in three individual events each. Their results were as follows:
David Bale: 50m Freestyle – 3rd, 100m Freestyle – 2nd, 200m Breaststroke – 1st … David swam the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle in LC times that were equivalent to the PB times he achieved at the SC Champs in March. David was placed 3rd on overall points in his age group out of a field of 12 competitors.
Caroline Makin: 50m Freestyle – 1st, 200m Backstroke – 1st, 50m Backstroke – 1st … Caroline achieved PB times in both the 50m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke, even compared to her existing SC PBs, and was the fastest female over all age groups in the 50m Backstroke event. Caroline achieved 1st place in her age group, with a maximum 30 points overall.
So, all in all, good all-round performances from these high spirited Vikings. Full Results are available on the Masters Swimming NSW Website.
