Unfortunately, the Interclub Duel Meet with Molonglo Water Dragons was initially postponed in February due to bad weather and the re-arranged date meant that our six swimmers who competed at the Nationals in Tasmania were unable to take part as they were still travelling home from Launceston. Despite this, the Vikings still turned up in force for the meet held on 11 April.
Thirteen swimmers took part in this local event: Annette Britten, Caroline Makin, Catherine Alexander, Cecelia Kaye, Lili Gilroy, Leisa Cass, Pauline Rohan, Gillian Laughton, Veronica Ferfolia, and finally some men: Ian Hampton, Terence Ingram, David Bale and Greg Gourley.
Gillian and Bruce Laughton, and Jane Lindsay worked as officials, and lots of swimmers helped out with timekeeping.
There was an excellent atmosphere in the small 25m pool at Queanbeyan with lots of good swimming. PBs were scored by David Bale 50m Freestyle, Caroline Makin 50m Backstroke, and Catherine Alexander 100m Freestyle, plus good swims from new member Terence Ingram in his first meet for the club, amongst others.
ACT Duel Interclub Meet Results 2010-04-11.
To round off the afternoon’s activities, competitors from both clubs went for a few convivial drinks and dinner at Walsh’s Hotel, a local hostelry.
These interclub meets are taking on a good friendly and competitive atmosphere … we should keep them going.
